The Cleveland Indians will try and avoid their first three-game losing streak since shortly after the All-Star Break and a complete collapse in the American League Division Series when they host Game 5 against the resurgent New York Yankees on Wednesday night. The Yankees, who will start veteran lefty CC Sabathia opposite Cleveland ace Corey Kluber, are playing their third elimination game already in the playoffs after winning the Wild Card game against Minnesota and staring down a 2-0 deficit in the ALDS. The Yankees got to Cleveland starter Trevor Bauer in Monday’s Game 4 after the righty shut down New York in Game 1. Aaron Judge recorded his only hit of the series (1-for-15, 12 Ks) when he doubled in two to send Bauer to the showers in the 7-3 victory. The Indians won 33 of their final 37 regular-season games but have arguably been the lesser team in this series – beginning with a Game 2 win that required the them to overcome a five-run deficit. Part of the struggles starts at the top of the lineup where Francisco Lindor (1-for-14, five strikeouts) and Jose Ramirez (2-for-17, seven strikeouts) are struggling to get the offense going. Designated hitter Edwin Encarnacion (ankle) sat out the last two games and will have his availability re-evaluated prior to Game 5.

Pitchers: Yankees – CC Sabathia (0-0, 3.38 ERA) | Indians – Corey Kluber (0-0, 20.25)

One of the decisions that backfired against Girardi in the Game 2 loss was pulling Sabathia after 77 pitches and 5.1 innings. The hefty lefty retired 12 of the last 13 batters he faced and left with a five-run lead before watching the bullpen and Girardi let him down. Sabathia is 9-5 with a 4.47 ERA in 20 career postseason appearances, but has had issues with Ramirez (4-for-8, two RBIs) and Lindor (5-for-9).

MORE MLB PLAYOFF PREDICTIONS

Kluber saved his worst for the Game 2 outing, allowing six runs on seven hits including two home runs in just 2.2 innings but was let off the hook when Cleveland stormed back for the win. Kluber started Game 7 of the World Series for the Indians last October, so he the big game experience the Indians are looking for.

It all comes down to one game to see who will battle the Houston Astros in the ALCS. Anything can happen in a baseball game, especially in a series decider. The Yankees have outplayed the Indians through four games and they have the momentum. I believe this game is a coin flip, so I’m not laying almost 2/1 on the Indians. I’ll take the better odds and roll with the Yankees.
