The New York Yankees will look for a three-game interleague sweep of the Chicago Cubs when the teams battle on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball from historic Wrigley Field. The Yankees have been riding the coattails of Starlin Castro, who has tormented his former team this weekend including yesterday’s 3-for-4 effort that saw him homer and knock in three runs as the Yankees won 11-6. It was New York’s fourth straight victory overall and it kept them a half-game up on the Baltimore Orioles atop the AL East standings. The Cubs have dropped two straight following a three-game winning streak to fall into a tie with Cincinnati in the National League Central. Chicago could use a deep outing from veteran left-hander Jon Lester tonight after starter Brett Anderson was unable to finish the first inning on Saturday. Lester will be facing New York for the first time since 2014, but he has matched up with them 29 times in his career, going 13-6 with a 3.78 ERA. The Yankees lineup will not be easy for him as they’ve scored 33 runs during its four-game winning streak and have hit 20 home runs over the past eight games. Castro (18-for-39) and OF Brett Gardner (14-for-39) extended their hitting streaks to nine games Saturday, while Cubs 2B/OF Ben Zobrist is 10-for-34 during his own nine-game hitting streak.
Pitchers: Yankees – Luis Severino (2-2, 3.86 ERA) | Cubs – Jon Lester (1-1, 3.67)
Luis Severino was roughed up in his season opener, but them reeled off three straight quality starts until the Blue Jays hit him hard last Monday. Severino allowed five runs over 5.2 innings in the loss to Toronto. Severino recorded 27 strikeouts in the previous three starts, including seven scoreless innings at Boston on April 26th. He has been especially tough on left-handed batters, who are hitting .179 against him.
Lester recorded his first victory of the season on Tuesday by beating Philadelphia, but he was not at his best. The veteran issued a season-high five walks and gave up a homer for the third consecutive start, allowing three runs (two earned) over five innings. Lester has been terrific at Wrigley Field over the past two seasons, going 11-2 with a 1.71 ERA in 18 starts.

Lester is just what the Cubs need to prevent a sweep, but he has not faced a lineup like this so far this season. The Yankees are hitting the stitches off the ball all year and Severino will do just enough to get the win here tonight.
