Even with Golden State stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson having shooting woes, the Houston Rockets still needed overtime on Saturday to get past the Warriors 126-121 in Game 3 of their Western Conference semifinal series. Houston dominated the interior and received 41 points from their star James Harden in Saturday’s victory. Curry dislocated his finger on his left hand and is still dealing with a sprained ankle he suffered in the first round against the Los Angeles Clippers, but has not used that as an excuse. “It was just one of those nights. I was aggressive early, tried to get to my spots and take shots. Over the course of my 44 minutes, it wasn’t my night. “We still had a couple of chances to win down the stretch. Obviously, I’m thinking of what I can do better and elevate my game, and I’m looking forward to Monday.” Curry shot 7-of-23 and missed 7-of-9 three-pointers in Game 3 and misfired on a layup and blew an uncontested dunk down the stretch. Curry has shot 35.3 percent overall and 25.0 percent from long range in the series, while averaging just 18.3 points. The Warriors might need both Curry and Thompson to find their shot in Game 4 Monday at Toyota Center to keep Houston from evening the series. The duo are shooting a combined 28.8 percent (15-for-52) from 3-point range in the series, and are putting more pressure on Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala to keep the Warriors offense going. Houston received a big boost in the form of Eric Gordon, whose play at both ends of the floor proved vital in the first round against the Utah Jazz and remains solid in this series. Gordon scored a playoff-career-high 30 points in Game 3, drilling 7-of-14 threes to keep Houston afloat until Harden stepped up down the stretch. Gordon is averaging 24.0 points on 41.2 percent 3-point shooting this series. Despite losing two of the first three games of the series, Houston has covered the spread in Games 1 and 3 and are 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 home games.

With Golden State’s shooting stars struggling in Game 3, Durant posted a game-high 46 points, Green notched his sixth career postseason triple-double (19 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) and Iguodala drained 3-of-4 three-pointers en route to 16 points. But, ultimately, if the Warriors are to thwart the Rockets, Curry must reclaim his form. Durant is averaging 39.4 points over the last seven games. The Warriors could also use a little more from the bench when others are struggling and didn’t get any of that in Game 3, recording just seven points and two assists from five different players.

Harden finished with 41 points and led the charge as Houston scored 52 points in the paint and outrebounded Golden State 55-35. PJ Tucker finished with seven points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocks while doing the best job on the team of slowing Durant. Center Clint Capela contributed 13 points and 11 rebounds and a terrific two-handed block on Andre Iguodala’s dunk attempt that got the crowd going. Chris Paul added 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting and turned the ball over just twice while pulling down eight rebounds.

You can’t keep Curry and Thompson down for long and I fully expect them to be focused and ready to go in Game 4. The Warriors will also make the proper adjustments in defending the glass better. Look for a tight, back-and-forth contest with Golden State pulling it out in the end.
