The Detroit Tigers wrap-up an 11-game road trip with the first of three in Kansas City against the Royals on Monday night. Thus far, Detroit is just 2-6 on the trek, losing three of four to both the Houston Astros and Chicago White Sox. The offense has gone cold, scoring three runs or fewer in five of those eight games including a pair of shutouts. Miguel Cabrera, who was 0-for-8 in the first two games against Chicago, went 1-for-3 yesterday and drove in his first run of the trip. The Tigers designated Tyler Collins for assignment and replaced him on the roster with fellow OF Alex Presley, who delivered an RBI double in Sunday’s loss. Utility man Andrew Romine is coming off a good weekend in which he went 6-for-16 against the White Sox. After losing three straight series, Kansas City was able beat the Cleveland Indians two out of three over the weekend, but were pounded 10-1 on Sunday. Rookie Jorge Bonifacio scored the lone run for the Royals with his seventh home run of the season and fifth in nine games. He has recorded 10 of his 16 season RBIs in that span. 1B Eric Hosmer has recorded multi-hit efforts in five of his last nine games.

Pitchers: Tigers – Daniel Norris (2-3, 4.38 ERA) | Royals – Jason Hammel (1-6, 5.98)

Daniel Norris will look to end a four-start winless streak when he takes the mound on Monday, not having won since May 1st. He’s coming off a no-decision at Houston despite allowing only two runs – one earned – and four hits in 6.1 innings. The Tigers eventually won the game 6-2. It matched the longest outing of the season for Norris, who has given up only four home runs in 49+ innings this season. Norris has yet to defeat Kansas City, going 0-1 with a 3.47 ERA in four career starts.

Jason Hammel suffered his three straight defeat last Wednesday against the New York Yankees despite allowing three runs over six innings and recording a season-high seven strikeouts. The former Chicago Cub has worked six or more innings in each of his last four outings but has received just 2.12 runs of support over nine starts this year. Hammel owns a 7.98 ERA in nine career appearances (six starts) versus Detroit but has a 2-2 record.

The Tigers are having a tough road trip and Cabrera is struggling right now. The Royals built some confidence over the weekend by winning two games in a place were they had been awful – Cleveland. Kansas City will be glad to get home on Monday after a nine-game road trip.

Pick: Royals -110
