The surprising Los Angeles Lakers host the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night at Staples Center and the Spurs will be looking for their seventh straight road victory. San Antonio lost only once at home last season, but have already dropped three. They are picking up the slack by going 6-0 so far on the road to help them maintain a two game lead over Houston in the Southwest Division. Center Pau Gasol scored a season-high 24 points on Wednesday in the Spurs 110-105 win at Sacramento. He’s starting to gel nicely with LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard, who also scored 21 and 20 points respectively. The victory gave San Antonio their fourth straight overall and head coach Greg Popovich his 1,098th career victory, tying Larry Brown for seventh on the all-time list. The Spurs won the past five meetings with the Lakers and six of the last seven. San Antonio will play 12 of their next 18 on the road before returning home on Christmas Day to face Chicago.

The Lakers are already at seven wins on the young season – a total they didn’t reach until January 1st last season. They have won six of their last eight games that included a 20-point blowout of Golden State on November 4th. Point guard D’Angelo Russell and power forward Julius Randle are thriving under first-year head coach Luke Walton. Russell scored a season-high 32 points Tuesday night against the Nets and leads the team with a 16.8 average, while Randle had 17 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists for his second career triple-double. The Lakers beat the Nets 125-118 and scored 126 points two games ago in a win at New Orleans. Center Timofey Mozgov scored a season-best 20 against Brooklyn after being in single digits in seven of his first 10 games. The Lakers will be tested over the next week with San Antonio tonight, Chicago and Oklahoma City at home, then on the road to Golden State the day before Thaksgiving.

The Lakers are playing great as a team right now and it’s fun to see a young team click so well. L.A. is 8-3-1 against the spread this season and I think the line is too high tonight. The Lakers have covered three straight against the Spurs.

Pick: Lakers +7
