SMU vs Pittsburgh Spread, Trends, and Free Pick – 2012 Compass Bowl ]]> include($base_url . “/includes/header.htm”); ?>
The point spread for this year’s Compass Bowl between the SMU Mustangs and Pittsburgh Panthers opened up at -3 in favor of the Panthers at BetOnline Sportsbook on 12/31. As of Wednesday afternoon (1/4), the line has inched up to -3.5. The total is set at 46.5. Right now, 52% of the betting public is on Pitt and 51% are on the under. To help you better decide who to bet, take a look at these trends for tonight.
Mustangs are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.
Mustangs are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
Panthers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Panthers are 10-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Under is 8-3 in Mustangs last 11 games following a S.U. win.
Under is 5-2 in Mustangs last 7 games as an underdog.
Under is 5-0 in Panthers last 5 bowl games.
Under is 4-0 in Panthers last 4 vs. a team with a winning record.
My Prediction: The Pitt team is in a little bit of turmoil over the abrupt resignation of head coach Todd Graham. He left the team to coach Arizona State without even talking to his players directly. The team is still angry over that. They won 3 of their last 5 games and covered the spread in every one of those. Meanwhile, SMU lost 4 of their last 6 and failed to cover in each of those six. Despite those opposite trends, I believe these teams will go back and forth all game, so I will take the points.
