Two division leaders will hook-up on Sunday afternoon in what is probably the game of the week in the NFL as the Los Angeles Rams host the New Orleans Saints from the Coliseum. Both teams have exceeded expectations this year with the Rams second in the NFL in scoring offense (30.3), while the Saints are riding an eight-game winning streak thanks to an improved defense and their typical explosive offense. Los Angeles leads the NFC West by a game over Seattle but saw its four-game winning streak come to an end last week in a rare offensive struggle, 24-7 at Minnesota. The Rams are in for another test this week against New Orleans, which held six of its last eight opponents to 20 or fewer points. The injuries are starting to mount up for the defense as defensive end Alex Okafor will miss the rest of the season after suffering an Achilles injury in last week’s 34-31 win over Washington. The Saints top two defensive backs, Marshon Lattimore and Ken Crawley have been ruled out for Sunday. New Orleans signed CBs Sterling Moore and Dexter McDougal this week to help out.

LIVE IN-GAME BETTING

New Orleans is averaging 30.2 points – third in the NFL right behind the Rams – and is taking the pressure off quarterback Drew Brees and the passing game with a ground attack led by veteran Mark Ingram and rookie Alvin Kamara. Ingram was named the NFC’s Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 134 yards on just 11 carries in last week’s win and is over 1,000 yards from scrimmage on the season (806 rushing, 213 receiving). Kamara is closing-in on of 1,000 yards as well (459 rushing, 447 receiving) and has scored at least one TD in each of the last four games. The Saints hold a one-game lead over surging Carolina in the NFC South and will host the Panthers next week.

The Rams have covered the spread in 2 of the last 3 regular season meetings.

Los Angeles’ offensive surge is led by second-year quarterback Jared Goff (16 touchdowns, 4 interceptions), but will be missing a key piece on Sunday as top wide receiver Robert Woods is dealing with a shoulder injury and will miss a few weeks. Rookie Cooper Kupp is second on the team with 481 receiving yards and will be expected to pick up the slack along with Sammy Watkins (408 yards, four TDs) and Tavon Austin, who does not have a catch in any of the last three games. The defense is ranked seventh in points allowed (18.6), but gives up a lot of yards on the ground (123.3), ranking 28th in that category.

WEEK 12 STAFF SELECTIONS

The Saints may be down a couple of good corners, but the defense is still strong and I believe the offense will run all over the Rams, which will open things up for Brees. This is a dangerous New Orleans team that won’t get caught looking ahead to Carolina next week.
