Rockies vs Giants Preview & Free Pick | Prediction [6/26/18]

Colorado (38-40) at San Francisco (40-39)
When: Tuesday, June 26th 2018
Where: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
Time: 10:15 ET | TV: AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain, NBCS Bay Area
Opening Odds: San Francisco -132/8.5

The Colorado Rockies looked as if they were going to go on a big run in their most recent homestand, but the offense stalled a bit over the weekend. They now head to San Francisco to begin a six-game road trip that includes the Los Angeles Dodgers later this weekend. Colorado is an uncharacteristic 15-22 at Coors Field this season and dropped the final two games of a seven-game homestand to the lowly Miami Marlins. They took the last three from the New York Mets and first from Miami by scoring 37 runs combined, but dropping games over the weekend have put them back under .500 and 6.5 games behind first place Arizona in the National League West. The Giants currently 5-2 on their 10-game homestand to jump one game over .500 at 40-39. They took two of three from the Marlins and three of four from the last place Padres to climb to within 4.5 games of the D’Backs. Giants outfielder Gorkys Hernandez is 4-for-13 over the last three games, with all four hits going for extra bases. San Francisco will trot out left hander Derek Holland against the Rockies’ Chad Bettis.

Pitchers: Rockies – Chad Bettis (5-1, 5.23 ERA) | Giants – Derek Holland (5-7, 4.48)

Bettis could be the worst 5-1 pitcher in the league, as he gets a ton of run support to bail him out of trouble. Bettis is coming off a rocky start against the Mets in which he allowed eight runs on nine hits and five walks across 4.2 innings for his fifth straight outing of allowing five or more runs. Bettis allowed five runs and 10 hits over six innings against San Francisco on May 28th, but came away with another no-decision.

Holland has been doing his best to keep San Francisco in ball games, allowing three or fewer runs in each of his last four starts. He’s coming off his fifth victory of the season Wednesday against Miami, allowing three runs and seven hits in six innings. Holland has not completed seven innings in any of his 15 starts. He took the loss May 18th against Colorado while surrendering four runs and six hits across six innings.

I don’t trust either one of those hurlers right now and probably should take the over. Instead, I will go with the better pitcher and hotter team in San Francisco. The Giants are starting to put things together to make a run at the NL West.

Pick: Giants -129
