Superstar Shooting guard James Harden of the Houston Rockets and point guard Isaiah Thomas of the Boston Celtics have been two of the top guards in the NBA this season. The two meet for the second time this season on Wednesday night in Boston.
Harden entered the week leading the league in assists (11.6) and is third for scoring (28.6). He was named a starter in the upcoming All-Star Game that was announced on Monday. Harden also leads an offense that is second in the league in scoring only to Golden State. The Rockets haven’t scored less than 100 points since November 21st.
Thomas didn’t get voted into the All-Star Game as a starter, but there’s an excellent chance that he’ll get in as a reserve. He’s second in the league in scoring (28.9) and he’s been extremely reliable in crunch time situations as he leads the NBA in fourth quarter scoring.
The Rockets are 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS in their last five meetings with the Celtics, including a 107-106 win at home on December 5th. Harden had 37 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and he hit all 18 of his free-throw attempts in that contest. Thomas had 20 points for the Celtics.
The Celtics have cooled off considerably since a great start to the month and they’re allowing an alarming amount of points. Houston is not the best team to play when you’re defense is struggling. I’ll take the Rockets tonight.
