The Washington Redskins and New Orleans Saints lock horns on Monday Night Football to conclude Week 5 action around the NFL, and it could a historic night as well. Saints quarterback Drew Brees needs just 201 yards through the air to become the NFL’s all-time leading passer in yards, passing Peyton Manning’s 71,940 mark. If this game is anything like last year’s battle between these teams, that should be no problem. Washington led 36-16 in the fourth quarter before a furious Saints rally tied it up and led to a New Orleans overtime victory. These teams seem to always play high-scoring affairs, as Washington won a 47-14 game with the Saints in 2015, making it the fifth straight time the over as come in when these teams meet. The Saints are 7-1-1 to the over in their last nine home games against teams with a winning record, and are 5-1 to the over in their last six games against the NFC. The Redskins have a good over history in the month of October, with all five last year reaching that. Redskins running back Adrian Peterson comes back to New Orleans, where he played four games last season before he was traded to Arizona. Washington will be fresh coming off a bye but the team has not been a fan of Monday night, dropping five in a row and 13 of 15.

Washington bounced back from a 21-9 loss to Indianapolis in Week 2 with a 31-17 victory over Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay prior to the bye. Peterson will welcome the extra week’s rest after rumbling for 120 yards and a pair of scores while Alex Smith added two touchdown passes against the Packers. The Redskins still lack a deep threat as running back Chris Thompson is the leading receiver with 20 receptions and tight end Jordan Reed is next with 14. Washington’s defense ranks second in points allowed (14.7) and third in both total yards (278.0) and passing yards (187.3).

The Saints will welcome back Mark Ingram from a four-game suspension and will try and find carries for him without cutting into Alvin Kamara’s efficiency. Kamara rushed for a season-high 134 yards and three touchdowns in last week’s 33-18 win at the New York Giants and also has 35 catches and a pair of 100-yard receiving games. Brees threw for a season-low 217 yards last week but has eight touchdowns and zero interceptions on the season. Defensively, the Saints can be beat through the air, surrendering an average of 311 yards per contest.

This is a pretty solid Redskins team both offensively and defensively, and the Saints defense has a lot of holes in it. The Washington defense will keep Brees from going off and keep this one close. Take the points.

Pick: Redskins +6.5
