Opening Odds: Milwaukee -177/10

The Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates have played six times this season and have together averaged 13.2 runs a contest, so Saturday’s 5-3 Milwaukee victory was a pretty low-scoring affair. Steven Brault and Chase Anderson will be the pitchers Sunday that will try and keep the offenses at bay when the Brewers go for the three-game sweep and sixth victory in seven chances in the season series. Milwaukee has won six of their last nine games overall and tied with the Chicago Cubs atop the National League Central. The Brewers, who also won the series opener on Friday 10-4, took three of four at Pittsburgh last weekend to give the Pirates their 11th loss in last 16 games. Mike Moustakas continues to rake for Milwaukee, bashing his 19th homer of the season Saturday and his sixth in eight games. The Pirates fell six games behind the pace in the division but are just 4.5 back of the second NL Wild Card spot. First baseman Josh Bell raised his major league-leading RBI total to 57 with a sacrifice fly Saturday.

Pitchers: Pirates – Steven Brault (2-1, 5.45 ERA) | Brewers – Chase Anderson (3-1, 3.93)

Brault will make his 11th appearance – fifth start – of the season and has been solid in his last two starts, allowing two runs – one earned – and eight hits over 9.1 innings. The free passes are adding up and that contributed to his early exit on Tuesday against Atlanta after he walked three and reached 93 pitches in just four innings. Brault did not start against Milwaukee in 2018 but did make six relief appearances and allowed seven runs and eight hits over 7.2 innings.

The Brewers are 5-1 against the Pirates this season.

Anderson has also spent some time in the bullpen this season but is now back to being a full-time starter. He was knocked around by the Miami Marlins in his latest outing, surrendering four runs on seven hits (three homers) in four innings and has yet to get past the fifth inning this season. Anderson pitched well in his previous outing – against Pittsburgh – earning the win by allowing two runs and six hits in five innings.

The Brewers have been dominating the Pirates all season and even though Anderson was rocked in his last outing, he did pitch well against Pittsburgh 10 days ago. Brault does not have good numbers against the Brewers and probably won’t last long. I’ll take the runline here.
