Nationals vs Dodgers NLDS Preview & Free Pick [Game 5]

Washington (2-2) at LA Dodgers (2-2)
When: Wednesday, October 9th 2019
Where: Dodger Stadium,
Los Angeles, CA
Time: 8:37 ET | TV: TBS
Opening Odds: Los Angeles -145/7

If the Los Angeles Dodgers want to continue their quest for a third-straight National League pennant, they’ll have to find a way to get to one of the hottest pitchers going. Stephen Strasburg will look to help the Washington Nationals finally win a division series when he takes the mound opposite Walker Buehler in Game 5 of the NLDS Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium. Los Angeles beat the Nationals on their home field in a Game 5 back in 2016 and will have the benefit of a fully-rested Clayton Kershaw waiting in the wings behind Buehler. The Nationals had a 2-0 lead in Game 3 of a 1-1 series until the Dodgers bats finally woke up en route to a 10-4 victory, only to get silenced by Max Scherzer on Monday. Buehler, the Game 1 winner, hasn’t yielded a run in his last 16.2 postseason innings for the Dodgers while Strasburg won Game 2 and has permitted one run in nine playoff innings this season. The road team is 19-13 all-time in division series Game 5s.

Pitchers: Nationals – Stephen Strasburg (2-0, 1.00 ERA) | Dodgers – Walker Buehler (1-0, 0.00)

Strasburg allowed one run on three hits with 10 K’s over six innings in winning Game 2 and now has an MLB-record 0.64 postseason ERA (minimum four starts). The California native could opt out of his contract after this season, making this start possibly his last in a Nationals’ uniform.

Buehler was brilliant in Game 1, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out eight across six innings on Thursday and will be on normal rest. Buehler posted a 2.68 ERA in 15 starts at Dodger Stadium this season and his team is 11-4 in those contests.

This is going to be an intense pitching matchup and I don’t see either one of these guys blinking. The Dodgers have a few more things going for them in this one. Homefield advantage, better lineup, more depth, better bullpen. I’ll take L.A. to advance.
