After a 103 win season in 2016 and ending their 108 year World Series drought, the Chicago Cubs are set as favorites on the MLB championship odds once again for 2017 as spring training is in full swing. However, the Cubs have company atop those betting futures.

The Cubs and Boston Red Sox are +450 co-favorites on the latest 2017 World Series odds at Bovada Sportsbook.

The Cubs ended their futility by putting up the best record in baseball before knocking out the San Francisco Giants in the NLDS, the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS, and finally the Cleveland Indians in seven games in the World Series. That winning run marked the first championship for the Cubs since 1908.

The Cubs, who are led by 2016 NL MVP Kris Bryant, are expected to be back among baseball’s elite again in 2017. Chicago parted ways with outfielder Dexter Fowler and closer Aroldis Chapman over the winter, but it did bring in reliever Wade Davis to close games.

Boston, however, made a big acquisition in the offseason as well by making a deal with the Chicago White Sox to acquire their ace starter Chris Sale, who went 17-10 with a 3.34 ERA and 233 strikeouts in 2016. The Red Sox won the AL East division title last season with 93 wins, but got swept by the Cleveland Indians in the ALDS.

Next up is the Indians that sit third on the odds to win the 2017 World Series, at +800. After knocking out Boston in the playoffs last season the Indians got past the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALCS before their seven-game loss to the Cubs in the World Series. The Indians have added slugger Edwin Encarnacion to their lineup for this season in hopes of taking one more small step to break their own championship drought in Cleveland.

The Dodgers and the Washington Nationals are tied at +1000 on the 2017 World Series odds board, with Los Angeles having beaten Washington in the NLDS last year before falling in the NLCS to the Cubs. The Giants are next at +1200 on the futures list, with the Houston Astros and the New York Mets both at +1400,  and the Toronto Blue Jays at +2000.

The St. Louis Cardinals (+2200), New York Yankees (+2500), and Texas Rangers (+2800) round out the rest of the contenders on the 2017 World Series odds, with the Seattle Mariners, Detroit Tigers, Baltimore Orioles, and Kansas City Royals at +3300.

The longest shot on the board to win the 2017 World Series at +15000 are the Minnesota Twins. The Twins had a league-worst record of 59-103 last season.
