Preseason expectations were very high in Minneapolis for the Minnesota Golden Gophers and after a 13-3 start – including wins over Providence and Alabama, it looked as if they would compete for a conference title – but, my how things have changed. The Gophers have now fallen completely out of NCAA Tournament contention with six straight losses and nine of their last 10. They will try and regroup for a positive finish to the season when they visit the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday night. Indiana ended a four-game losing streak by stomping lowly Rutgers 65-43 on Monday. The Hoosiers held the Scarlet Knights to 24.1% shooting from the floor, which is the lowest allowed by Indiana in Big Ten play in more than 21 years. They will seek a repeat defensive performance and a season series sweep with Minnesota following a 75-71 victory in Minneapolis on January 6th. Indiana has won four of the last five meetings with Minnesota and the Gophers haven’t won in Bloomington in more than six years.

Nate Mason recorded a career-high 34 points to go along with six assists in a 91-85 loss to Nebraska on Tuesday to move into seventh place on the Gopher’s all-time scoring list. Forward Jordan Murphy contributed 22 points and 13 rebounds to record his NCAA-leading 21st double-double of the season while Isaiah Washington, who was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday, chipped in 10 points and eight assists. Dupree McBrayer sat out the second half after suffering a leg injury while Amir Coffey missed his third straight game after re-aggravating a shoulder injury, and both players are questionable for Friday.

Minnesota has covered the spread in 3 of the last 4 meetings in Bloomington.

Juwan Morgan led Indiana with 24 points and pulled down eight rebounds against Rutgers to finish with 20 points or more for the sixth time in conference action this season. Morgan is averaging 22.8 points and 8.2 rebounds over his last five games. Robert Johnson made three 3-pointers en route to 19 points against the Scarlet Knights to move into fourth place on Indiana’s all-time 3-point field goals list with 220. Devonte Green contributed nine points and four assists in his first Big Ten start as the Hoosiers limited Rutgers to 43 points, which equals the fewest allowed by Indiana in a conference game since January 2008 against the Iowa Hawkeyes.

NCAA BASKETBALL GAME LINES

I believe Minnesota still has a little bit of life left in them against an Indiana team that is really not that impressive. The underdog has been very good in this series (21-7 ATS run), and the Gophers are usually that underdog. I’ll take the points.
