Michigan State vs Illinois Free Pick – January 18th, 2011

The betting line for tonight’s Big Ten matchup between the Michigan State Spartans and Illinois Fighting Illini opened up Monday afternoon with the home team as 4.5-point favorites at Sportsbook and the total opened up at 137. So far, early indications are that the betting public is with Sparty, but that could change. To help you better decide who to bet, take a look at these trends for tonight.

Spartans are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall.

Spartans are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games following a S.U. win.

Fighting Illini are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 vs. Big Ten.

Fighting Illini are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss.

Under is 4-1 in Spartans last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.

Under is 4-1 in Spartans last 5 vs. Big Ten.

Over is 5-1 in Fighting Illini last 6 vs. Big Ten.

Over is 4-1 in Fighting Illini last 5 overall.

Under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Illinois.

Spartans are 5-12 ATS in the last 17 meetings.

My Prediction: Illinois comes back home after road loses at Wisconsin and Penn State. Illinois is 9-0 at Assembly Hall. Michigan State is coming off 2 overtime home wins against Northwestern and Wisconsin. The Illini needs this win to keep pace in the Big Ten race. The Spartans are just not playing up to potential right now. I think Illinois wins this between 8-10.

Illinois -4.5
