The Miami Marlins and New York Mets continue their big four-game series on Tuesday after the Mets took the first one on Monday night. Yoenis Cespedes, who has been battling a quad injury, returned to the lineup after missing Sunday’s game and delivered three hits including the walk-off solo blast to give New York a 2-1 extra innings win. The Mets tied the Marlins at 67-64 with the victory and both are 2.5 games behind the Cardinals in the race for the final NL Wild Card spot. New York has won seven of its last nine games and scored seven or more runs in five of those. The Marlins left 10 men on base in Monday’s loss and have totaled two runs during a three-game slide as they continue to play without star Giancarlo Stanton in the lineup. Stanton saw a specialist on Monday and did some light agility drills prior to the game. Miami RF Ichiro Suzuki (3,011) moved past Wade Boggs and into 27th on the all-time hit list last night.

Pitchers: Marlins – Tom Koehler (9-9, 3.85 ERA) | Mets – Seth Lugo (1-2, 2.51)

Tom Koehler is winless in his last three starts despite pitching well in each of those games. Koehler allowed three earned runs in six innings on Thursday in a loss to Kansas City. He allowed a pair of solo home runs in five innings at New York on July 4th and is 2-6 with a 4.13 ERA in 19 career games (16 starts) against the Mets.

Seth Lugo will make his first start at Citi Field after making his first two on the road including a solid outing against the Cardinals last week. He limited St. Louis to just two hits in five scoreless innings. The rookie has yet to surrender a home run in the majors and has 24 strikeouts in 28.2 total innings. Lugo faced Miami out of the bullpen on July 23red and allowed one run on two hits and two walks in 1.1 innings.

Both offenses tend to struggle, but New York’s is starting to get better. The Marlins are really in trouble without Stanton in the lineup. Lugo should get a boost from the home crowd today and pitch well enough to earn the victory.

Pick: Mets -120
