The Seattle Mariners look to rebound from a rough weekend in New York to take on the suddenly resurgent Baltimore Orioles on Monday night in a matchup of two teams very much alive in the AL Wild Card race. The Minnesota Twins are currently hanging onto that second spot with the L.A. Angels and Mariners 1.5 games back, while the Orioles sit two back. The Orioles are riding a four-game winning streak after completing a three-game sweep in Boston over the weekend, outscoring the AL East-leading Red Sox 25-4. Baltimore 2B Jonathan Schoop went 0-for-4 on Sunday to end a seven-game hitting streak during which he was batting .433. The Mariners became the first major-league team in 40 years to commit five errors in one inning during Sunday’s 10-1 loss to the New York Yankees. The Mariners didn’t generate any offense over the weekend and one reason was the injury to 2B Robinson Cano, who came back yesterday after pinch-hitting duties on Friday and Saturday, but left late in the game as he wasn’t running particularly well, according to Seattle manager Scott Servais. Seattle has fared well recently against Baltimore, winning two of three at home two weeks ago and eight of the last 10 overall meetings. Since joining Seattle in 2015 after one season in Baltimore, Nelson Cruz has hit .392 with five homers and 15 RBIs in 51 at-bats against his old team.

Pitchers: Mariners – Marco Gonzales (0-1, 7.40 ERA) | Orioles – Chris Tillman (1-7, 7.75)

Former Gonzaga Bulldog Marco Gonzales will look to turn things around and keep his team in the ballgame tonight. He hasn’t made it through five innings in each of his last five starts and is coming off a loss in Atlanta after allowing two runs on six hits and three walks while throwing 99 pitches over 4.2 innings. Gonzales has allowed at least one home run in each of his five outings this season – including one with St. Louis – and is allowing opponents to bat .352 against him. Gonzales settled for a no-decision versus the Orioles on August 16th, when he allowed four runs over 4.1 innings.

CLEVELAND INDIANS VS NEW YORK YANKEES PREVIEW AND FREE PICK

Chris Tillman is back in the rotation and picked-up where he left off – with a dud. He allowed four runs and issued a career high-tying six walks across 5.1 innings against the Angels on August 20th. The former All-Star was coming off a pair of scoreless relief appearances – the first two of his career – but has recorded an 8.00 ERA in his 16 starts this season. Cano (15-for-36) and Cruz (5-for-16) both have hit a pair of homers against Tillman, who is 7-1 with a 3.30 ERA in 11 career games (10 starts) versus Seattle.

This game has OVER written all over it. The total is set at 11, but I have to take it. The Orioles offense came alive against Boston over the weekend and should be able to prevent Gonzales from going five innings again. Tillman has been awful all year and the Mariners should easily score at least five in this game.
