The NBA trade deadline has come and gone and while not every team was involved in swapping players, tonight’s participants in Sacramento made a few moves this week. The Miami Heat and Sacramento Kings will bring slightly different lineups into tonight’s game as they both fight for a postseason berth. The Heat acquired forward Ryan Anderson from the Phoenix Suns for guards Tyler Johnson and Wayne Ellington. The veteran Anderson was averaging just 3.7 points for the Suns but should provide some perimeter shooting for the Heat as he has made more than 100 3-point baskets in seven different seasons. The Kings have a good young squad and brought in a little more experience with the acquisition of Harrison Barnes from the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night in exchange for forwards Justin Jackson and Zach Randolph. Sacramento hasn’t been to the postseason in 12 years and are 1.5 games out of the top eight currently behind the Los Angeles Clippers. The Kings see Barnes as a good fit with the backcourt of Buddy Hield and De’Aaron Fox. Sacramento has taken the last three meetings with the Heat, including a 123-113 win in Miami back in October.

Miami, who sit in the No. 8 spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race, have had trouble getting the offense going, losing three of their last four and scoring less than 90 points in two of those losses. Center Hassan Whiteside, however, helped power the Heat to a 118-108 upset win in Portland the other night with 28 points on 11-of-12 shooting to go with 11 rebounds and four blocked shots. By trading away Johnson and Ellington, reserves Dwyane Wade and Dion Waiters should see an increase in court time. Starting shooting guard Josh Richardson averages 34.6 minutes while averaging a team-leading 17.3 points. Miami will get even better when point guard Goran Dragic (14 games played) comes back sometime after the All-Star Break.

The Kings are 3-1 during a six-game homestand but are coming off a 127-101 loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. Sacramento made more moves this week, acquiring Caleb Swanigan from the Portland Trail Blazers for fellow power forward Skal Labissiere. They also got guard Alec Burks from the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-team deal in which guard Iman Shumpert went to the Houston Rockets. Burks will provide depth off the bench to go along with Bogdan Bogdanovic, who averages 14.8 points a game, and rookie forward Marvin Bagley III (13.1).

Sacramento may not have their full squad for this game, but it won’t matter. They are playing very well right now with their young nucleus and have beaten the Heat three straight times. This is an easy one for me.
