The Duke Blue Devils are playing their best basketball of the season at the right time and will try and extend their five-game winning streak when they visit the Virginia Tech Hokies on Monday night – the final week of the regular season. The defense is starting to clamp down for Duke, which has allowed 57 points or less in four-straight contests, and will take on a Virginia Tech team that is squarely on the NCAA bubble after a 75-68 setback to Louisville on Saturday. Duke freshman Marvin Bagley III, who missed four games with a mild knee sprain, came back strong in Duke’s 60-44 win over Syracuse on Saturday with 19 points and seven rebounds in 31 minutes. Virginia Tech will be getting its first look at Bagley, who leads the ACC in scoring (21.1) and rebounding (11.2) but missed last month’s meeting due to the knee injury. Point guard Justin Robinson averages 13.8 points to lead Virginia Tech, which has allowed at least 10 3-pointers in 12 of its 16 ACC games and will be tested by the Blue Devils, who lead the league in scoring at 86.2 points per game. Duke holds a 46-9 lead in the all-time series, but Virginia Tech posted a 14-point victory last season in Blacksburg.

Duke hardly missed Bagley in the 74-52 win over the Hokies on Valentine’s Day as senior guard Grayson Allen scored 25 points and the Blue Devils finished 15-of-33 from 3-point range. Freshman forward Wendell Carter Jr. took over the offense while Bagley was out including a huge game against the Orange, recording 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and four steals. Allen ranks second on the team in scoring at 15.3 points, and dishes out 4.6 assists per game. Freshman guard Gary Trent Jr. is coming through in the clutch, connecting on 29-of-30 from the foul line in the last five minutes of regulation or overtime.

Robinson has scored in double-figures in 15 of the last 16 games for the Hokies, who were outrebounded 44-27 against Louisville and fell out of a tie for fourth place in the ACC standings. Senior guard Devin Wilson had been playing well during the Hokies’ recent surge, but he was a non-factor against the Cardinals, battling foul trouble and going scoreless in 17 minutes. Sophomore center Kerry Blackshear Jr. scored 14 points and had five rebounds before fouling out against Louisville. Virginia Tech leads the ACC in field goal percentage (50.3), 3-point field goals made (258) and 3-point field goal percentage (39.4).

Duke is proving tough to beat right now as all the freshman are stepping up in big ways to lead this team. Virginia Tech is having problems covering the perimeter and that’s not good news with a hot Duke team coming to town.

Pick: Duke -5.5
