Dodgers vs Giants Preview and Free Pick | Prediction [4/6/18]

LA Dodgers (2-5) at San Francisco (3-3)
When: Friday, April 6th 2018
Where: AT&T Park, San Francisco, CA
Time: 10:15 ET | TV: SportsNet LA, NBC Bay Area
Opening Odds: Los Angeles -132/8

The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants have one of the best rivalries in baseball and they’ll be back at it again for their second series of this young season when they meet in AT&T Park on Friday night to begin a three-game set. They played an interesting series to start their seasons last weekend. The Giants took the first two meetings 1-0 in Dodger Stadium behind a pair of solo home runs by Joe Panik, but couldn’t muster a run in the next two as the Dodgers evened the series. Panik, who has recorded a career-high 10 homers on two occasions, added his third of the season in Tuesday’s 6-5 home loss to Seattle before seeing his five-game hitting streak end the following day, but San Fran ended a three-game skid with a 10-1 triumph over Felix Hernandez and the Mariners. Panik is 5-for-12 with a homer and two RBI versus Friday starter Kenta Maeda. Catcher Buster Posey is 6-for-14 with two doubles and three runs scored during his four-game hitting streak. Los Angeles’ offense has sputtered of late, getting shutout for the third time in seven games, as Arizona capped a three-game series sweep with a 3-0 victory on Wednesday. Matt Kemp’s bloop double with two outs in the fifth inning accounted for the Dodgers’ lone hit, and he’s 1-for-5 in his career versus Friday starter Derek Holland. Catcher Yasmani Grandal recorded multi-hit performances in two of the first three meetings with San Francisco, but is 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in his last two games.

Pitchers: Dodgers – Kenta Maeda (1-0, 0.00 ERA) | Giants – Derek Holland (0-1, 5.40)

Maeda recorded the Dodgers first win of the season when the Japanese star struck out 10 batters and scattered five hits over five innings in a 5-0 victory over the Giants on Saturday. Former Pittsburgh Pirate Andrew McCutchen (10 at-bats) and Hunter Pence (13) have each struck out five times against Maeda, who owns a 4-1 record and 4.55 ERA in six career starts versus the Giants.

Holland was on the losing end of that same game started by Maeda, and allowed all five runs (three earned) and walked three in five innings to take the loss. Holland has struggled in his last 11 outings dating back to last season with the Chicago White Sox, posting a 2-6 mark in that stretch. Justin Turner is 1-for-4 versus Holland, who has dropped both of his career meetings to the Dodgers.

7 of the last 8 meetings between the Dodgers and Giants have gone Under the total.

We only need to go back a few days to find out all we need to know about this pitching matchup. Holland is not a very good pitcher anymore and will get an angry Dodgers lineup in need of a spark. L.A. has won 15 of their last 22 when Maeda starts and I see another victory here. The Dodgers will knock Holland out before the fifth inning.

Pick: Dodgers -140
