The Los Angeles Dodgers have been tormenting NL Central opponents as they climb the standings of the National League West. They will try and take the first two of a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night after taking the opener 5-1 at Busch Stadium. Rookie sensation Cody Bellinger became the fastest player in team history to reach double digits in home runs when he belted his 10th in his 31st game on Sunday to cap a three-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs, and added another one on Monday in St. Louis. Bellinger, who is up to nine home runs in May, can set a franchise rookie record for home runs in a calendar month with one more in the next two games. Veteran Chase Utley has also found his long-ball stroke, belting his third home run on Monday – all coming in the last five games. St. Louis, which dropped two of three at Los Angeles last week, has lost nine of its last 12 games overall and is hoping to avoid its fourth consecutive series loss against an NL West opponent. The Cardinals are bunched-up in the Central standings with everyone else as just 3.5 games separate first (Milwaukee) from last (Pittsburgh). St. Louis rookie 3B Paul DeJong is 3-for-5 with a home run and a double in his first two big-league games.

Pitchers: Dodgers – Kenta Maeda (4-2, 5.08 ERA) | Cardinals – Michael Wacha (2-2, 3.66)

Kenta Maeda earned a victory in his first game back from the disabled list when he allowed three runs and seven hits over five innings in a win over the Cardinals last Thursday. Maeda is 3-0 in his last four starts and did not allow more than three runs in any of those outings. Maeda won his only previous start at Busch Stadium last season and owns 44 strikeouts in 44+ frames this season.

Wacha is going in the opposite direction, going winless in his last five starts. He was hit hard for six runs and seven hits over four innings at Los Angeles on Thursday against Maeda. Wacha threw six scoreless innings in a no-decision against San Francisco in his previous turn but has not recorded an out in the seventh inning in any of his last five starts. Wacha is 2-0 with a 2.35 ERA in five home starts this season versus 0-2 with a 6.19 ERA on the road.

I like Wacha to cool off the Dodgers bats a little on Tuesday, but I think Maeda will be solid as well. The Dodgers are just a half game from first place now and they’re playing well. Look for a low-scoring game with L.A. pulling it out.

Pick: Dodgers -110
