When: Friday, June 1st 2018

Time: 8:10 ET | TV: FS Wisconsin, NBCS Chicago
Opening Odds: Milwaukee -141/9.5

Its been a tough season so far for the young Chicago White Sox, and I’ll be first to admit, I predicted them to be a surprise team in the American League prior to the season starting. You see this a lot nowadays with young talented teams ascending earlier than expected. The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies for example, but the White Sox aren’t there yet. There is help on the way with one of the best farm systems in the league and the MLB Draft coming up. For now, the last place White Sox will make due with what they have and will host a three-game interleague series against the first-place Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night. The Brewers are winners of 11 of their last 14 games to improve to 36-21 and ascend to the top of the NL Central. Milwaukee did not drop back-to-back games in the month of May and won their last six series after a win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. The White Sox are losers of four in a row and six of seven after wrapping up a six-game road trip by getting swept in Cleveland by a combined score of 25-10. Chicago will try and get back into the win column behind left-hander Hector Santiago while Milwaukee counters with righty Chase Anderson on Friday. Brewers OF Christian Yelich has multiple hits in five of his last six games and scored 10 runs in that span, but fellow outfielder Lorenzo Cain is 1-for-12 over the last three games.

Pitchers: Brewers – Chase Anderson (4-3, 4.42 ERA) | White Sox – Hector Santiago (1-2, 4.87)

Anderson is coming off a no-decision against the New York Mets on Saturday thanks to his offense letting him off the hook. Anderson was blitzed for five runs on seven hits and three walks in 3.2 innings in a game Milwaukee went onto win 17-6. Anderson posted just one quality start in the month of May, when he allowed two runs over six innings in a win over Arizona on May 21st. Anderson won his lone previous start against Chicago and is 5-2 with a 2.93 ERA in 13 career interleague games – 12 starts.

Santiago was summoned out of the bullpen on Monday and pitched a scoreless inning, but will be making his regular turn in the rotation on Friday. Santiago posted his first victory of 2018 at Detroit in his last start on Saturday, scattering three runs – two earned – and seven hits across five innings. He is making his second career start against the Brewers and is 1-5 with a 4.10 ERA in 23 career interleague games – 14 starts.

I was thinking about taking a shot with the White Sox in this one, but Anderson has been stellar on the road – 2.19 ERA and Milwaukee is 3-1 in his four road starts. This is a low price to lay for a team with the best record in the National League against a team with the worst record in the American League.

Pick: Brewers -135
