We have a pretty good pitching matchup on Sunday afternoon under the sun of Dodger Stadium as the Atlanta Braves tangle with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the rubber match of their weekend series. L.A. struck first with a 7-3 win on Friday, but Atlanta came through on Saturday night with a 5-3 triumph thanks to trusty veteran Freddie Freeman. The Braves first baseman is 9-for-17 with two homers and four RBIs over his last four games after collecting three hits on Saturday, while Tyler Flowers drove in three runs. It was Atlanta’s fourth win in 17 contests at Dodger Stadium as the Braves stayed even with Washington in the NL East. The Braves are looking to clinch their first series victory at Dodger Stadium since 2012. The Braves have a few potential All-Stars on their squad including right fielder Nick Markakis, who is batting .328 after going 2-for-5 with an RBI on Saturday. Sean Newcomb will be looking for his eighth win of the season for Atlanta, and he’ll be opposed by Ross Stripling (1.52 ERA). The Dodgers are 16-6 over their last 22 games and hoping for good news on rookie pitcher Walker Buehler, who left Friday’s game with sore ribs and is questionable to make his next start. Third baseman Justin Turner has been held out of the starting lineup in four of the last five games with a sore left wrist but is expected to start Sunday.

Newcomb won his seventh straight decision Tuesday against San Diego, when he allowed three hits and three walks with four strikeouts over six scoreless innings. Newcomb, who leads the staff with seven wins, is 5-0 with a 1.79 ERA way from home, and is 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA in two career starts against the Dodgers.
Stripling improved to 4-0 with a 0.73 ERA in his last four starts after going five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts in a 5-0 win over Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Since moving into the starting rotation, Stripling has pitched 38 innings and has a 49-to-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He has a 4.00 ERA in four career games (one start) against Atlanta.
I really like this Newcomb guy. He is one of the young prospects the Braves have that will lead this team to a pennant in the near future. His road stats are incredible this season and we know Dodger Stadium is a pitcher’s park. I like the Braves to get the job done as a nice underdog play.
