The New York Yankees bring their road show to Philadelphia for a three-game interleague series with the Phillies beginning Monday night at Citizens Bank Ballpark.
New York just dropped two of three games to the Nationals in Washington over the weekend, giving up late leads Saturday and Sunday, and has lost seven of its last 10. The Yanks are in second place in the AL East, a game back of division-leading Boston.
Philadelphia beat Tampa Bay 8-5 Sunday to break a six-game losing streak. The Phillies sit in second place in the NL East, 9 ½ games back of the division-leading Mets.
New York is 18-15 on the road this season, while Philly is just 17-21 at home.
These two teams haven’t met since the 2001 season.
The Yanks send lefty Randy Johnson (8-5, 5.32) to the mound Monday, while the Phillies counter with Brett Myers (4-3, 3.86). Johnson has allowed 15 HRs this season, which has helped 10 of his 15 starts this year go over the posted totals.
Myers has never started a game vs. the Yankees.
Mike Mussina (8-3, 3.14) will go for New York Tuesday vs. Philadelphia’s Cory Lidle (4-6, 4.89). And Jaret Wright (3-4, 4.86) will pitch Wednesday for the Yanks against Cole Hamels (1-2, 4.91) for Philly.
New York leads the majors with its .369 team OBP, and averages 5.8 runs per game.
Philadelphia owns a .332 team OBP, just 11th-best in the NL, and averages 5.0 RPG.
The Yankees bullpen has allowed 7 ER and 19 H+W in its last 15 1/3 IP.
The Phillies pen has given up 11 ER and 35 H+W in its last 20 innings of work.
The over/under is 37-29 in Yankees games this year, 36-32 in Phillies games and 21-17 at Citizens Bank Ballpark.
The Ultimatecapper Pick: Randy Johnson looked good in his last start but we're going to continue to fade him until he puts together a string of good starts. Good value here with the Phillies as the underdog.
