Two hot Western Conference teams collide on Tuesday night as the Houston Rockets host the Golden State Warriors at Toyota Center. Golden State suffered through a rough stretch when big man Kevin Durant went down, but have gathered themselves nicely and are playing much better defense. The Warriors have reeled off seven straight victories and can wrap up the top seed with a good week against Houston (twice) and second place San Antonio. The Warriors needed someone to step up when Durant went down and are getting a strong contribution from veteran Andre Iguodala, who went 7-of-8 from the floor in a 106-94 win over Memphis on Sunday. The Warriors, who allow 104.3 points a game, have held five of their last seven opponents under the century mark. Klay Thompson is a sizzling 34-of-65 from 3-point range over the last seven games. The teams split the first two meetings, with Golden State earning a 125-108 win at Houston behind 32 points from Durant on January 20th.

The Rockets are already locked into the three-seed out West, but want to prove they can beat the best as they head into the postseason. Houston has won four straight and seven in the last eight overall and James Harden continues to build his MVP resume. The All-Star point guard is averaging 36 points, 12.2 assists and 8.6 rebounds while shooting 50% from the field over the last five games and was named Western Conference Player of the Week on Monday. Houston’s supporting cast is stepping up around Harden after a few awful performances recently. Four different players scored at least 22 points in Sunday’s 137-125 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Lou Williams led the way with 31 points off the bench while hitting 7-of-8 from long range. Small forward Trevor Ariza was also on fire, going 6-of-8 from 3-point range on Sunday after going 5-of-20 in the previous four games. Houston gets one day off after this contest, then plays at Portland and Golden State again on back-to-back nights.

This should be a terrific contest, but I think the home court is the edge in this one. Houston shoots lights-out at home and they really want to prove that they can beat the best. They were impressive on Sunday and I think that carries over to this game.

Pick: Rockets -1.5
