The Cleveland Cavaliers may still be the favorite to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals, but they have a lot of work to do within the locker room for that to become a reality. They are in the middle of their worst stretch of basketball this season and now they have to contend with the Golden State Warriors on Monday night, who are on a 12-game road winning streak. The Cavaliers were annihilated by a total of 62 points in losses at Minnesota and Toronto before going into Indiana on Friday and building a 22-point lead in the first quarter only to fall 97-95. The Warriors, who beat the Cavaliers 99-92 on Christmas Day, have hit a brutal portion of their schedule and nearly blew a 27-point halftime lead at Toronto on Saturday before holding on to earn a 127-125 win on the second night of a back-to-back. Golden State, who leads the Western Conference by 3.5 games, will continue their five-game road trip in Chicago on Wednesday before ending it in Houston on Saturday. The free-falling Cavaliers have lost seven of their last nine and are 7.5 games behind East-leading Boston and 3.5 behind second place Toronto. Golden State has won six of the last seven meetings from Cleveland, including a five-game win in the NBA Finals last spring.

Golden State point guard Stephen Curry returned from a two-game absence with an ankle injury on Saturday and recorded 24 points, nine assists and six rebounds. Curry, who missed the Christmas game against Cleveland with the same ankle injury, was the only player that might have been well-rested in Toronto, which marked the Warriors’ third game in four nights and seventh in 11 days. Kevin Durant, who has been taking some nights off, played in each of the last three games and shot 64.3% from the floor and 58% from 3-point range in those contests. Backup small forward Omri Casspi (back) sat out the last two games and is probable for Monday.

The home team has won 7 of the last 8 matchups.

With the rash of injuries the Cavaliers are dealing with, other players have been going out and playing extended minutes, but head coach Tyronn Lue liked what he saw the other night in Toronto. “Guys may have been a little tired, but I thought we fought and played with the right purpose, defensively especially.” Isaiah Thomas, who is sitting out back-to-backs after coming off a hip injury, is expected to play on Monday and is hoping for a better performance after going 2-of-15 (four points) at Toronto. Shooting struggles haven’t been immune to the rest of the team, as JR Smith is 4-of-22 from the floor, including 1-of-12 from 3-point range, in the last three games. Cleveland will get the struggling Orlando Magic on Thursday after two days off.

NBA SCORES – ODDS – PUBLIC PLAYS

I don’t have any confidence in Cleveland right now even though LeBron and company can go off at any time. Their team chemistry is not very good right now and Golden State will take full advantage of that and roll.
