By now you are used to the fact that I spend a lot of time focusingon the lesser-lights of the college football teams, such as UTEP,Wyoming, and TCU and so on.
Those who follow college football closely are familiar withthe story of Mike Price the former coach at Washington State whoafter a great career in Pullman was offered the head coachingposition at Alabama.
Prior to the beginning of the season, Price headed to Floridafor a charity golf tournament and while there decided to visitthe local gentlemen’s club and I certainly use that term loosely. One thing led to another and Price ended back at the hotel witha couple of female companions and when the dust settled, he wasfired from Alabama!

After a little bit of soul searching Price endedup taking the head coaching position at the University of TexasEl Paso which is not exactly the greatest coaching gig in theUS. Last year, Mike Price took over a UTEP team that was returning17 starters, the most in the WAC Conference. Price pumped up histeam and led them to an 8-4 record, gaining the fifth bowl appearancein the school’s history. More importantly, Price’s team was 7-3ATS.
UTEP had its first home sellout in four yearsand didn't disappoint with a resounding 31-3 victory over Marshallon Saturday that had the Sun Bowl Stadium crowd of 51,500 roaring.
"The atmosphere was just awesome - it couldn'tbe better," UTEP coach Mike Price said. "I've been to a lot ofplaces. I've seen crowds of over 100,000 people, and this wasjust as good as any of them."
It was a milestone game in many ways for theMiners. The Miners tied a school record for consecutive wins inthe Sun Bowl with seven. They recorded the 100th UTEP win in stadiumhistory. It was UTEP's 12th consecutive win in the Sun Bowl beforea crowd of 40,000 or more.
Quarterback Jordan Palmer threw three touchdownpasses and moved into second place on UTEP's career total offenselist. Palmer completed 17 of 25 passes for 215 yards, giving him5,751 yards at UTEP. Sammy Garza (1983-86) is the Miner careerrecord-holder with 6,056 yards of total offense.
They travel to Houston this week to take on ahorrible Rice team, before hosting a quality Tulsa team in twoweeks. They then get UAB at home and then travel to Dallas toface a suddenly pesky SMU team.
