The Minnesota Twins are very close to locking-up a Wild Card spot and will try to do so at the expense of the hottest team in all of sports right now – the Cleveland Indians. The Twins rebounded from a three-game sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees by demolishing the Detroit Tigers over the weekend. Minnesota outscored the lowly Tigers 39-12 en route to the four-game sweep and a 4.5-game lead over the Los Angeles Angels for the final American League playoff spot entering Monday’s action. Although the Indians clinched the American League Central a long time ago, they still have plenty to play for, holding a 2.5-game lead over Houston for the top record and home-field advantage in the AL Playoffs. Cleveland, which went 5-1 on its road trip to move within two wins of 100 for the season, is 10-6 against the Twins this season and have won 29 of 31 overall. Indians 3B Jose Ramirez is 17-for-35 with 11 RBIs over the past 10 games, while Twins SS Jorge Polanco is riding a seven-game hitting streak.

Pitchers: Twins – Bartolo Colon (6-14, 6.63 ERA) | Indians – Josh Tomlin (9-9, 4.98)

Bartolo Colon is showing his age over the last month of the season, dropping all four starts in September while posting a 9.17 ERA in that stretch. The 44-year old lasted only 3.1 innings at Yankee Stadium last time out and was pounded for six runs and a pair of homers in his career-worst 14th defeat. He allowed three solo homers over five innings in a loss to Cleveland on August 15th.

Josh Tomlin is riding a four-game unbeaten streak since returning from a five-week stint on the disabled list, going 2-0 while allowing a total of seven runs in that span. Tomlin is 5-0 in his last eight starts and has not lost since the Twins hit him for four runs on June 25th. Joe Mauer has hit Tomlin well, going 13-for-32 against him.

The Twins are playing really well right now, but Colon has been awful and I wouldn’t put any money on him right now. The fact that Cleveland still has something to play for means a lot when picking this game. I’ll take the Indians on the runline as our MLB pick of the day.

Pick: Indians -1.5 -110
