The Detroit Tigers look to continue their dominance over their AL Central rivals, the streaking Minnesota Twins, in the middle game of a three-game set Tuesday night in MoTown.
Detroit beat Minnesota in the series opener Monday night 9-3, putting the Tigers 40 games above the .500 mark.
The Twins, who are 40-13 since June 8, still sit in third place in the AL Central, 10 ½ games back of division-leading Detroit. But Minnesota is just a half-game back of the Red Sox and the White Sox in the AL wild-card race.
The Tigers, winners of four straight games, lead the AL Central by 10 games over the second-place ChiSox, and they lead the race for best record in the AL by eight games over the New York Yankees.
Detroit has also won 10 of 13 games vs. the Twins this season, and is 7-0 at home vs. Minnesota this year, outscoring them by a 56-11 margin.
The Twins are 26-31 on the road this year, and 21-29 as underdogs.
The Tigers are 37-17 at home this season, and 55-22 as favorites.
Brad Radke (10-8, 4.75) makes the start on the mound for Minnesota Tuesday night. Radke has been great as of late, going 6-1 with a 3.05 ERA over his last 10 starts. But the right-hander has had big problems in three starts vs. Detroit this season, allowing 13 ER and 30 H+W in just 11 1/3 IP.
The Twins are 13-10 in Radke’s starts this year, the over/under 11-11.
Lefty Nate Robertson (10-7, 3.82) takes the hill for the Tigers Tuesday. Robertson has given up 11 ER and 23 H+W in his last 19 1/3 innings of work. Robertson has also started three times vs. Minnesota this year, allowing 8 ER and 26 H+W in 18 IP, and he’s beaten Radke twice already this season.
Detroit is 12-10 in Robertson’s starts this year, the o/u 8-13.
The Twins own a .352 team OBP this season, 4th-best in the AL, and are averaging 5.2 runs per game.
The Tigers rank 9th in the league with their .334 team OBP, and are averaging 5.3 RPG.
The Minnesota bullpen has given up 7 ER and 22 H+W in its last 17 2/3 IP.
The Detroit pen has limited foes to just 1 ER and 13 H+W in its last 13 innings of work.
The o/u is 58-49 in Twins games this year, 46-62 in Tigers games, and 22-30 at Comerica Park.
