The Toledo Rockets kept their MAC West title hopes alive last week with a hard-fought road win over Central Michigan, but will have a bigger test tonight in Bowling Green. The Rockets are tied with Northern Illinois and Western Michigan at 5-1, but Toledo lost to the Huskies and will play the Broncos next week. Things will clear up more after Wednesday’s Northern Illinois vs Western Michigan game. Toledo ran out to a 21-10 halftime lead against the Chippewas and held them off at the end 28-23. Philip Ely had another terrific game completing 23-of-39 passes for 322 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions. Running back Kareem Hunt busted out for 113 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns. He now has two straight 100 yard games and four touchdowns. The offense should be able to put up some points against the Falcons tonight, but their 102nd ranked passing defense will have their hands full with Bowling Green’s Matt Johnson.

Bowling Green has already wrapped up the MAC East when they handled previously unbeaten (in MAC play) Western Michigan 41-27 last week. It was the fifth straight game the Falcons have scored over 40 points and are now a perfect 6-0 in the conference. Johnson had one of his worst games of the season throwing for less than 300 yards for the first time this season, but the running game picked him up. Senior Travis Greene ran for a season-high 170 yards on 24 carries and three scores. It was his second straight game with 3 touchdowns and it gives him 12 total for the year (10 rushing, 2 receiving). Things won’t be as easy for Greene tonight as he faces the 16th best rush defense in FBS. The Bowling Green passing defense is just as bad as Toledo’s, so we could see a shootout tonight. The goal for Toledo tonight and next week against Ball State is to stay healthy. They already have a date with the West champion on December 4th in Detroit.

Toledo is 3-0 against the spread on the road and they really need this win. Bowling Green may play a little relaxed since they already clinched. I still expect a back-and-forth shootout, but in the end, I’ll take the points.

Pick: Toledo +7
