For the first time in a long time, the two best teams in the NFL regular season will meet in the Super Bowl. The New Orleans Saints started the season 13-0 before losing at home to the Cowboys, while the Indianapolis Colts started 14-0 before pulling their starters and giving the Jets an easy win. Both teams also have the 2 best quarterbacks in 2009. Drew Brees led the NFL with 34 touchdown passes this year despite sitting out the last game of the year. The Colts’ Peyton Manning was right behind him with 33 touchdowns. We all know the Saints and Colts can run up and down the field with the best of them. The big question is whether or not their defenses can come through. This is where the game will be won. The Colts were considerably better in their two playoff wins allowing only 20 points combined while the Saints gave up 42. The Saints did however, go up against much better offenses than the Colts, but lets look at how they compared in the regular season.

Yards Allowed: Colts 18th, Saints 25th
Rush Yards Allowed: Colts 24th, Saints 21st
Pass Yards Allowed: Colts 14th, Saints 26th
Points Allowed: Colts 8th, Saints 20th

The biggest factor I’m looking at is experience. The Colts have been here before. This is a business trip for them. Manning will be spending every possible minute this week looking at game film and finding all the Saints holes on defense. For the Saints, this will be more of a party celebrating New Orleans’ first every trip to the Super Bowl. Saints defenders are already talking about how hard they want to hit Manning to get him out of the game. Don’t expect the refs to go light on them this time around. I know a lot of people are on the Cots so far as the line moved a point and a half in the first 10 minutes it came out last Sunday. I really don’t think the Colts can lose this game. They will be focused and more prepared than the Saints will. I’m looking for a close first half and then the Colts pull away in the 2nd half for a 10 point win, 30-20.

Pick: Colts -5.5
