In a matchup that everyone was looking forward to last season, the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors will finally hook-up in a series that matters – the Western Conference Finals. These were the top two teams last year, but the Spurs suffered an early exit in the postseason allowing the Warriors to coast to the Finals. Golden State has breezed through the first two rounds with sweeps over both Portland and Utah and will have a full week off to rest up for the Spurs. Golden State floods the floor with shooting weapons like Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson and is adding another in power forward Draymond Green, who is shooting 51.2% from 3-point range in the playoffs. Green, who is a leading contender along with San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard for the Defensive Player of the Year Award, is the emotional leader of the team. The Warriors will once again be coached by Mike Brown, who is filling in for Steve Kerr as he deals with complications from back surgery. Thompson averaged 22.3 points during the regular season but reached 20 twice in the first eight playoff games.

The Spurs have had to battle their way to the Conference finals. They got by the Memphis Grizzlies just fine, but had a big battle with Houston that ended with a 114-75 road victory in Game 6. The Spurs were pushed against the Rockets and enter the conference finals at less-than full strength with point guard Tony Parker (quadriceps tendon) out for the rest of the playoffs and Leonard nursing a sprained left ankle that kept him out of the clinching Game 6 win over the Houston Rockets on Thursday. Leonard will have a full four days off before Sunday’s opener and is expected to play against Golden State, which lost two of the three meetings against San Antonio in the regular season. Leonard’s absence allowed power forward LaMarcus Aldridge to take on a more prominent role, and he responded with 34 points and 12 rebounds against Houston in his best performance of the postseason. Shooting guard Jonathan Simmons averaged 13.2 points against the Rockets after posting 3.6 in the first round against Memphis.

Golden State is going to be tough to guard on the perimeter with Parker out. The Warriors are eager to get back on the court and I think they come out hot and win by double-digits.

Pick: Warriors -10
