The San Antonio Spurs will try to make it a sweep of a two-game stopover in Los Angeles when they take on the slumping Clippers Tuesday night at the Staples Center.
San Antonio has won seven games in a row and 16 of its last 18. The Spurs beat the Lakers Monday 103-96 as five-point road chalk. San Antonio hit 10 of 14 three-pointers in the second half and led by 18 early in the fourth quarter.
Los Angeles has lost two games in a row and seven of their last 10. The Clippers fell to Memphis 102-86 Sunday as five-point home favorites. The Grizzlies shot 57 percent from the floor.
San Antonio is 30-28 against the spread this season; 28-27 as a favorite, 21-9 straight up on the road (second-best in league), 14-16 ats away from home. The Spurs have also covered five games in a row.
The Clippers are 30-27 against the spread this season; 9-11 ats as underdogs, 15-14 ats at home, but 0-3 ats as home dogs (excluding games vs. the Lakers).
San Antonio leads the Southwest Division and the Western Conference standings by one game over Dallas.
Los Angeles is in second place in the Pacific Division, 8 1/2 games back of Phoenix. The Clippers also hold down the fifth spot in the Western Conference, one game ahead of Memphis.
The Spurs have won eight games in a row in the series with the Clippers. In the most recent meeting between the two teams, San Antonio beat L.A. 95-87 in OT in December as seven-point home favorites.
San Antonio is holding opponents to a league-low 88 points per game and an NBA-best 43 percent shooting from the field on the season. But the Clippers rank third in field goal defense at just a few clicks above the Spurs. The San Antonio defense also limits opponents to a 16-13 assist-to-turnover ratio; Clippers opponents own a 21-12 A/TO differential.
L.A. is third-best in the league in free-throw shooting at 79 percent; the Spurs are third-worst at 70 percent.
San Antonio's Tim Duncan got poked in the eye during Monday night's game vs. the Lakers, but the oddsmakers seem to think he'll play tonight.
The under is a cumulative 65-49 in Spurs and Clippers games this season, and three of the last four games in the series have stayed under the total. But the San Antonio offense has topped 100 points three of its last four games, and those last four have all gone over.
The total on this game opened up at 184, but was quickly bet down two points.
