How to Scalp Baseball Bets
by Jerry of Ultimatecapper.com
As I was perusing the daily lines the other day an interestingopportunity was presented to me. I recently opened up a new accountat
BetOnSports
and noticed that they had some fat juicy odds on the dogs. Therewere several games where the lines on the dog were significantlyhigher than what other books were offering. I decided that thiswould present a perfect opportunity to make some free money witha scalp. For those of you not familiar with scalpinglet me quickly explain it, then I will provide the informationof how I used it to make it an even better proposition for mypurposes.
The basic concept of a scalp is to find a dog that provides a bigger win than what you will have to pay on a losing wager with the favorite at a different sportsbook. Here are the lines that I observed when I went to make my wagers.
BetOnSports
had listed the Cleveland/New York Yankees game as:
Cleveland +170
NY Yanks –200
AnotherSportsbook was offering this line:
Cleveland +142
NY Yanks –150
This provides a chance to win money in with no risk by bettingthe following:
At BetOnSports place a wager on Cleveland for $100 to win $170 and place a bet at AnotherSportsbook on the NY Yanks of $150 to win $100. If Cleveland wins you will win $170 at BetOnSports and lose $150 at AnotherSportsbook for a net win of $20. If the NY Yanks win you will win $100 at AnotherSportsbook and lose $100 at BetOnSports and break even.
The prospect of scalping will always require a win by the underdog if you are betting the same amounts so here is the bet that I made since I thought the NY Yanks would win the game. I bet $120 on the NY Yanks to win $80 at AnotherSportsbook and $60 to win $102 on Cleveland at BetOnSports. Here are what my possible outcomes were, if NY Yanks win I win $80 from AnotherSportsbook and lose $60 at BetOnSports for a net win of $20. If Cleveland wins I lose $120 at AnotherSportsbook and win $102 from BetOnSports for a net loss of $18.
If we assume that I was going to make a play on the NY Yanks and my normal unit play is $20, I would have had to risk $30 to win that amount with a single wager at AnotherSportsbook. By combining the wagers I only have to risk $18 to win a $20 wager. In effect what I have done is taken a wager on the NY Yanks who are a –150 favorite and turned them into a wager that makes the NY Yanks a +111 underdog.
