The Boston Red Sox go for their third straight series win when they play the rubber-match of a three-game set with the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night. It was not a good night for a couple of Boston stars on Tuesday as 2B Dustin Pedroia was placed on the 10-day DL prior to the game and ace Chris Sale had his worst outing of the season. Still, the Red Sox found some punch at the bottom of the order and came out with a 13-7 victory. They set a team season high with six home runs – two by No. 9 hitter Deven Marrero and another by No. 8 hitter Jackie Bradley Jr. – to survive Sale’s poor outing in his return to Chicago. Xander Bogaerts had one of the other home runs to highlight his four-hit game and he’s hitting .355 with 15 RBIs in May. Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel picked up his 14th save Tuesday while extending his scoreless streak to 15 innings. 3B Pablo Sandoval was activated from the 10-day disabled list to take Pedroia’s spot on the roster. The White Sox will be looking for a strong outing from tonight’s starter Mike Pelfrey after Jose Quintana was able to get through only 2.2 innings in suffering the loss Tuesday. Melky Cabrera had three of Chicago’s 14 hits and is 7-for-13 with two homers and five RBIs over his last three games. White Sox 3B Todd Frazier homered on Tuesday for his third homer in 10 games, although, that accounts for all of his hits in that span.

Pitchers: Red Sox – Drew Pomeranz (4-3, 4.70 ERA) | White Sox – Mike Pelfrey (2-4, 4.41)

Drew Pomeranz had his best outing of the month on Thursday when he went six innings in a win over Texas. He went only four innings or fewer in three straight starts before he tamed the Rangers. He allowed two runs on four hits and one walk while tying a career high with 11 strikeouts. Pomeranz, who is having the best strikeout rate of his career at 11.5 per nine innings, has seven scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts in two career games (one start) against the White Sox.

Mike Pelfrey has been pitching better, allowing only one earned run in each of his last two starts. He struck out a season-high seven in a win over Detroit on Friday and has a 3.12 ERA in four career starts against the Red Sox. Pelfrey did give up five runs in five innings at Fenway Park last July. The righty has gotten the best of Boston slugger Hanley Ramirez (10-for-56, eight strikeouts), while Mookie Betts (4-for-9, two doubles) has fared better.

Boston is heating up offensively and now the bottom of the order is contributing. I don’t expect Pelfrey to last long and the White Sox bullpen will have to try and pick up the slack again. They won’t. Boston in a route.

Pick: Red Sox -1.5 +100
