Green Bay Packers (1-2) +11, o/u 48 at Philadelphia Eagles (2-1), 7:30 p.m. Eastern Monday, ESPN

The Green Bay Packers, winners for the first time this season last week, hit the road for a battle under the lights in Philadelphia vs. the Eagles on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
Green Bay lost its first two games of this season, both at home, to the Chicago Bears and to the New Orleans Saints. But the Packers gave new head coach Mike McCarthy his first victory with a 31-24 triumph at Detroit last week.
G.B. got outrushed by the Lions 105-60, and is only averaging 75 rushing yards per game this season. But QB Brett Favre supplemented the Packer running game by hitting his running backs 11 times for over 100 yards vs. Detroit.
Favre had a tough outing against the Bears (who doesn’t?), but over the last two games he’s hit for a 62% completion rate for 680 yards and a 6/1 TD/INT ratio.
Philadelphia won and covered at Houston in Week 1 and at San Francisco in Week 3. Their only loss came in that collapse against the New York Giants two weeks ago, a game which the Eagles led 24-7 after three quarters. Philly outrushed all three of their opponents this season, by an average of 129/93.

The Eagles pass defense ranks 26th in the league in yards allowed, but most of that comes from the fact Philly has led most of all three of their games.
The Green Bay pass defense ranks dead last in the league by giving up 301 yards per game. But that same unit led the NFL last season by holding foes to an average of 168 passing yards PG.
Philly QB Donovan McNabb has been pretty good this season, completing 61% of his pass attempts on his way to a 7/1 TD/INT ratio.
The Eagles beat the Packers in Week 12 last season 19-14 in Philly. Philadelphia jumped out to a 10-0 lead, but Green Bay came back and took a 14-10 lead into halftime. The Eagles then shut out the Packers in the second half, and got three more FGs, including the game-winner with four minutes to go in the game, from ace kicker David Akers.
Philly outrushed Green Bay 180-128 that day, and covered the spread (on an insurance FG with under two minutes to go) as four-point home chalk. The game stayed under its posted total of 41.
Packers RB Ahman Green, owner of a 2.8 yards per carry average this season, is listed both as questionable and probable for Monday night’s game with two bad hamstrings.
Eagles RB Brian Westbrook, who leads the NFL with 420 yards from scrimmage this season, is listed as probable with a sore knee. And Philly WR Donte Stallworth, who missed last week’s win over the 49ers with a bad hammy of his own, is also listed as probable and questionable, depending on what you read.
The over/under is a collective 4-2 in Packers and Eagles games this season.
Philly opened up as 10-point favorites for Monday’s game, with a total of 47. But those numbers have been bet up to 11 (and more) and 48½.
The Ultimatecapper Pick: Historically, the dog has been a great bet on Monday Night Football. This particular spread leaves something to be desired though, as do the Jeckyl and Hyde GB Packers. We're passing on this one. |
