The Miami Hurricanes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish renew their intense storied rivalry on a huge stage Saturday night as both teams are in great position to make it to the College Football Playoffs this season. The Hurricanes sit atop the ACC Coastal standings and have a magic number of one to clinch after last week’s 28-10 victory over ACC rival and then-No. 13 Virginia Tech, while the Fighting Irish continued to roll with a 48-37 triumph over Wake Forest. It will be the first time since 1989 that both schools have been ranked in the Top 10 at the time of their meeting, with Brian Kelly’s Irish sitting third in the College Football Playoff rankings and Mark Richt’s Hurricanes jumping up to seventh. Notre Dame’s only loss this season was to now No. 1 Georgia by one point, but have been easing past the rest of their opponents. Notre Dame is led by a terrific rushing attack led by Heisman hopeful Josh Adams, who had helped the Irish run for almost 1,000 more yards rushing this year than all of last season. Miami is not plowing through their schedule like Notre Dame, often needing clutch plays to keep its 13-game winning streak alive. The Hurricanes last loss came at Notre Dame last season (30-27), but they showed Virginia Tech that they have the offensive weapons and defensive speed and muscle to compete against anyone right now. The Irish hold an 18-7-1 series advantage, but the Hurricanes have won five straight meetings in Miami.

LIVE IN-GAME BETTING

The Irish ground attack (324.8 yards per game) is getting gaping holes from a terrific offensive line and Adams (132.3 average) has made opponents pay with his big-play ability as he has seven touchdown runs of at least 60 yards this season, although his streak of four straight games with a TD rush of over 70 yards was snapped last week against Wake Forest. The Irish defense is only giving up a 17th-best 18.4 points a game, but has a little trouble stopping the passing attack. Opponents have thrown for an average of 245.3 yards a game (90th in the nation) and 15 scores, but their ability to stop the run and a potent offense, has them right were they need to be.

The home team has been dominating this series through the years.

Miami also has a quick-strike offense led by quarterback Malik Rosier, who averages 283 yards passing a game and has dangerous weapons to throw to. Miami has a pretty decent back of their own in Travis Homer, who is averaging 6.4 yards a carry and has seven touchdowns and another 15 grabs out of the backfield. The Hurricane’s defense, which leads the nation at tackles for loss per game (8.8), still have games in which they surrender too many yards, allowing 176 or more on the ground in the four games prior to limiting Virginia Tech to 102. Turnovers have been a big part of Miami’s defense, getting four more last week against Virginia Tech to give them 20 takeaways (13 interceptions, seven fumble recoveries) on the season to rank fourth in the nation.

TCU VS OKLAHOMA PREVIEW AND PREDICTION

This game will come down to the line of scrimmage, and that edge goes to Notre Dame. Their ability to run the ball will be key to sustaining drives and keeping Miami’s offense on the sidelines. The Irish will wear down Miami in the second half and pull away for the win.

Pick: Notre Dame -3
