With sincere apologies to the NCAA and March Madness I have to put them on the backburner for a few seconds while I switch gears to the NFL. Everyone in America plans their Thanksgiving Day around the NFL doubleheader that is staged annually in Detroit and then Dallas. Now for the first time in the history of the NFL we will have a “Tripleheader” as the Denver Broncos will travel to Kansas City to face their archrivals.
The schedule for the early portion of the 2006-2007 season was announced yesterday and it will kickoff once again on a Thursday night when the Miami Dolphins and Daunte Caulpepper travel to Pittsburgh to face the defending Super Bowl Champions. Remember NBC is back in the business of televising NFL football and they will begin on Sunday September 10th with an intriguing matchup from New Jersey where the Manning’s will collide for the first time. The Indianapolis Colts and Peyton will find out what life is like without Edgerrin James lugging the football will introduce Adam Vinateri as their kicker.

Another major move is on Monday night where ESPN will now take over the reins from ABC and they will provide us with a doubleheader on September 11th beginning with the retooled Vikings traveling to the nation’s capital to face the Redskins. The nightcap will have us at the Black Hole where the Raiders will introduce Art Shell as their coach and the Chargers will be the visitors.
