Who do you think is the most popular betting team with bettors this season? The Colts? The Bears? Or perhaps even the Ravens?
Think again. It’s the Bengals. And the second most popular team so far is the Eagles.

has analyzed the millions of dollars bet so far this season and created a point spread adjusted weight of money calculation to show who are the ‘public’ teams this year. The Bengals top the leagye with a 73.5% weighting. This means that in an average Bengals game 73.5% of the money in that contest will be wagered on the Bengals.
Second is the Eagles, with a 69.5% weighting, which shows that even without T.O. there is a lot of brotherly love for Philadelphia. San Diego is a surprise choice of the public in third place with 68% of the money while the presence of Dallas in fourth place should surprise no-one as they are consistently a ‘public’ team.
But the Packers, who for years have been a ‘public’ team, are fifth from bottom at 36.25%, which suggest the betting population has finally woken up to the problems of Favre and his crew. It is the first time in eight years that Green Bay has dipped outside the top 10 teams in ‘public’ betting.
San Francisco and Oakland are the joint-bottom sides at 23% each and this is partly a reflection of the Bay Area’s poor performances in recent years and also a reflection that the region tends to have a less fanatical (in betting terms, at least) audience to invest in their teams’ performances.
