So you can pick winners. You've got a winning percentage of56%. That's bigger than the 52.4% break-even point. Than why aren'tyou making money? Odds are that you need a little lesson in moneymanagement. Making money in sports gambling is more than justpicking winners. You also need a good money management systemand the disclipline to stick to it, win or lose. Here are a fewhints that might help you on your way to becoming a real sportsgambler.
1. Have a set bankroll
Have a wad of money just set aside for your gambling, just enoughmoney so that you could afford to lose it. It is a lot easierto be discliplined about all this if you're not constantly feedingyour
bookie
money from your paycheck.
2. Don't bet too much on one game
No matter what some scamdicappers would like you to believe withtheir "lock of the day", "lock of the month",or what have you, there is no such thing as a sure thing in sports. The Russians sure were a "lock" to beat out the US forthe 1980 Olympic gold in hockey. We all know how that ended. Thepoint is that you can lose any game. So don't let any one gamedetermine the fate of your bankroll.
We recommend that you bet 1-2% of your bankroll on each game.
3. Don't chase your losses
You just went 0-10. You're down 10 units. It's only natural totry to get your money back by betting twice as much per game thenext day, or betting games you wouldn't normally touch with a10-foot pole. DON'T! That's the surest way to deplete your bankrollentirely. It's chasing losses that built Vegas. Eventually youWILL go 0-10. You CANNOT avoid it. It's just a temporary setback.Stick to your system the next day. If this continues, you maywant to reevaluate your system, but a few bad days do not meanthat your system does not work.
4. Don't get too excited when you win
You just went 10-0. You won 9 units in a single day. You figureyou're on a streak, so you double your bet size. The next dayyou go 3-7. Congratulations. You've just completely cancelledout that great day you had. The lesson here is to stick to thesystem, keep your bet size the same.
