The first-place New York Mets head west to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers
in the opening game of a three-game series Monday night at Dodger Stadium.
The Mets just dropped two of three games to the Giants in New York over
the weekend, but still lead the NL East by 4 ½ games over 2nd-place Philadelphia.
The Dodgers just split four games with the Phillies in SoCal over the
weekend, and sit in second place in the NL West, 2 ½ games back of the
division leading Arizona Diamondbacks.
New York is 14-11 on the road this season, while L.A. is 18-12 at home.
These two teams split six games last season. This is their first encounter
of this season.
Mets’ rookie Soler (0-1, 7.36) has made two starts in his big-league
career this season, allowing 10 runs and 20 H+W in 11 innings. He has
not started a game vs. the Dodgers.
L.A.’s Tomko (5-3, 4.38) started out well this season, but has been
rocked for 15 ER and 29 H+W in his last 13 2/3 IP. Tomko made one start
for San Francisco vs. the Mets last year, holding New York to one run
in 7 2/3 innings of work.
The Mets are 1-1 in Soler’s starts this year, with both games staying
under the posted totals. The Dodgers are 6-5 in Tomko’s starts this season,
as is the o/u.
New York owns a .327 team OBP, 5th-worst in the NL, and averages 4.9
runs per game. And over their last five games the Mets have scored just
16 runs.
Los Angeles leads the league in team OBP at .362 and in scoring at 5.5
RPG. The Dodgers have also scored 77 runs in their last 10 home games.
The New York bullpen has held opponents to just 5 ER and 25 H+W in its
last 21 IP.
The L.A. pen has allowed 13 ER and 28 H+W in its last 19 IP.
The Dodgers placed 2B Jeff Kent on the DL last week, and Nomar Garciaparra
and SS Rafael Furcal are both listed as questionable for Monday’s game.
The o/u is 28-25 in Mets games this season, 33-22 in Dodgers games,
and a head-scratching 19-9 at Dodger Stadium.
