Dallas Mavericks +5, o/u 193 at San Antonio Spurs, 9:30 p.m. Eastern, TNT
by Ultimatecapper.com Staff
The San Antonio Spurs were the favorites to win not only their Western Conference semi-final series with the Dallas Mavericks, but also the conference title. And the Spurs won Game 1 of this series 87-85. But Dallas has won the last three games to take a 3-1 series lead into Wednesday’s Game 5 in AlamoTown.
The Mavericks are 3-0 in this series since inserting guard Devin Harris into the starting line-up, and are on a 7-1 playoff run. Their only road loss was that 2-point decision in Game 1 to the Spurs.
Also, not only has Dallas outrebounded San Antonio in every game in this series, the Mavs have won the battle on the boards in all their playoff games this season.
These Southwest Division rivals battled all year long for home-court advantage in the playoffs, with the Spurs eventually finishing three games ahead of the Mavericks. The teams split four regular-season meetings this season, with the o/u going 2-2.
In fact, the total points scored in those four regular-season meetings came to a very consistent 187, 182, 178 and 187. But three of the four games (the last three) in this playoff series have easily gone over the posted totals. That's probably why the total on Game 5 started at 191 but has been bet up to 193.
San Antonio is 38-8 at home this season, but just 21-24 against the spread, and have covered just three of their last 13 home games.
Dallas is 29-16 on the road, but just 21-22 vs. the number.
Despite being down 3 games to 1, San Antonio should not be counted out. After all, they are the defending champs, and have won the NBA title two of the last three seasons.
The o/u is 3-1 in this playoff series, and was 2-2 in the regular-season series. Also, the o/u is 18-27 in Spurs home games this season.
