Jeff Bagwell Retires?
Starting Season on DL; Not Much Hope of Return

I knew it. You knew it. He knows it, but none of us want to believe it. Jeff Bagwell is done. It's not official yet, but it's very apparent that the slugger with one of baseball's most odd stances has played his last MLB game.
Bagwell, 37, will start the 2006 MLB season on the injured list. He's had a hell of a 15 year run with the Astros. He was quoted as saying that that he may never play again and he's going to do what's best for him, the team and baseball. While he may have said this we know that this guy has the heart of a lion and is obviously struggling in not wanting to announce his career is over.
In a game where money seems to have taken over people's best interests, ya hate to see the game lose a guy like Bags. It's pretty obvious he's not in the game for loot. All heart baby.
Bagwell leads the Houston franchise in many statistics including 449 round trippers, 1529 RBI and 1517 runs. On a higher level, he's the only first bagger in MLB history to bang out 400 dongs and 200 stolen bases.
The chronically injured right shoulder that has an arthritic condition appears to have ended a career that we'd all have liked to see last just a little bit longer.
Thanks for the memories Jeff, you are true class and the game will sorely miss you.
