The Cleveland Indians ended the regular season with one of the hottest runs in MLB history and have followed that by taking the first two games against the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series. They will attempt a three-game sweep when the series shifts to Yankee Stadium for Game 3 on Sunday night. Cleveland rallied from an 8-3 deficit on the strength of a grand slam by Francisco Lindor and a solo shot from Jay Bruce before Yan Gomes drove in the walk-off run in an epic 13-inning battle on Friday. Yankees manager Joe Girardi found himself answering questions about his decision not to challenge a hit-by-pitch call that preceded Lindor’s slam and his decision to pull starter CC Sabathia in the sixth inning after 77 pitches. “There was nothing that told us that he was not hit on the pitch,” Girardi told reporters after the game. “By the time we got the super slow-mo, we are beyond a minute. It was way too late. They tell us we have the 30 seconds. They will take longer in replay.” On Saturday, Girardi backed down a bit, saying basically that he screwed up. The Indians may be without DH Edwin Encarnacion on Sunday after he left Game 2 with a sprained ankle. Michael Brantley, who is still recovering from an ankle injury, came in for Encarnacion and will probably get the start in Game 3. New York slugger Aaron Judge is 0-for-7 with five strikeouts in the series.

Pitchers: Indians – Carlos Carrasco (18-6, 3.29 ERA) | Yankees – Masahiro Tanaka (13-12, 4.74)

Carlos Carrasco, who has not lost since August 22nd, will get the nod on Sunday. He finished out the regular season by allowing one or zero runs in six of his final seven starts. Carrasco’s last start was probably the best of the bunch as he struck out 14 over 8.1 scoreless innings against the Minnesota Twins. Carrasco, who is making his postseason debut after sitting out last October with a broken hand, had a rough outing earlier this season against the Yankees. On August 6th, Carrasco allowed five runs in 5.2 innings and took the loss.

MORE MLB PLAYOFF PREDICTIONS

Masahiro Tanaka was also terrific in his last outing in September, striking out 15 without a walk and allowing just three hits in seven scoreless innings against Toronto. Tanaka allowed seven earned runs in two of his three previous outings but finished the regular season with a career-high 194 strikeouts. He lost his only previous postseason start in the 2015 wild-card game against Houston and is 1-2 with a 4.63 ERA in four career starts against Cleveland.

Losing the way the Yankees did on Friday is hard enough to bounce back from during the regular season, but in a postseason game, it’s demoralizing. Tanaka was great in his last outing, but he’s been inconsistent, while Carrasco has been on a roll just like his team. I think Cleveland ends the series tonight.

Pick: Indians -116
