The Detroit Pistons look to extend their three-game winning streak and stay in second place in the Eastern Conference when they host the struggling Atlanta Hawks on Friday night. The Pistons have won six of their last seven overall and are coming off a 114-97 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday. Detroit is getting contributions from the whole roster as 11 players scored in Wednesday’s win, including a combined 22 points off the bench from guards Ish Smith and Langston Galloway. The Hawks only wish they could get some help scoring to help support guard Dennis Schroder, who leads the team with 22.6 points a game. Atlanta might be turning the corner after winning at Cleveland and taking the Boston Celtics down to the wire in a 110-107 loss on Monday – a game in which we nailed. The Pistons took two of the three meetings last season, including the lone matchup in Detroit 118-95 on January 18th.

Atlanta won its first game of the season and then dropped eight in a row before winning at Cleveland over the weekend. The offense is starting to come around, shooting 47.7% in the 117-115 win over the Cavaliers and 48.1%, including 13-of-26 from 3-point range, in the loss to the Boston Celtics, who own the NBA’s best scoring defense. Schroder was at the center of it again, totaling 51 points on 18-of-33 shooting in the last two games and averages 6.6 assists per game to lead the team as well. Shooting guard Marco Belinelli scored 19 points on Monday after going scoreless on 0-of-9 shooting in the previous two games.

The Hawks have covered the spread in 4 of the last 6 meetings.

One of the most exciting turnarounds for this Detroit team is the free-throw shooting from star center Andre Drummond. The career 38.8% free-throw shooter went 30-of-40 from the line in the first 10 games before slipping up with an 0-of-7 performance in Wednesday’s win. Still, his 63.8 percentage on the season will drastically help this team, along with his 15.2 rebounds per game after bringing down 21 against Indiana. The Pistons are 8th in the league in scoring defense (100.8) despite allowing opponents to shoot 46.4% from the field. Detroit will conclude their five-game homestand on Sunday against Miami.

WASHINGTON VS STANFORD PREVIEW AND FREE PICK

Atlanta is starting to come around some and I think Detroit will take them too lightly tonight. Look for Schroder to get hot again and keep his team within striking distance. Take the points.
