Two old friends hook up for an Atlantic Coast Conference clash when Bobby Bowden’s Florida State Seminoles visit Chuck Amato’s North Carolina State Wolfpack Thursday night in Raleigh.
Florida State opened this season by beating the Miami Hurricanes 13-10 as four-point road dogs, but then needed two late TDs to beat Troy 24-17 as 25-piont home chalk. The Seminoles then lost to Clemson 27-20 as four-point home favorites, but bounced back to beat Rice 55-7 two weeks ago.

N.C. State opened with a 23-10 win over D2 Appalachian State, then fell to the Akron Zips at home 20-17 on a late touchdown and got outrushed 261-77 in getting beat by Southern Miss 37-17. But just when things really looked bad, sophomore QB Daniel Evans, in his first collegiate start, drove the Pack down the field and tossed the game-winning TD pass in the waning second as N.C. State upset Boston College 17-15 as six-point home dogs two weeks ago.
Both FSU and NCS had last week off.
Wolfpack head coach Amato spent 18 seasons as an assistant under Bowden at Florida State before taking over in Raleigh seven seasons ago. Since then, N.C. State is 3-3 straight up and 4-1-1 against the spread vs. the Seminoles. Last year, the Wolfpack outrushed Florida State 196-43 in beating the ‘Noles 20-15 as 12-point road dogs.
Florida State returned seven starters on offense from a season ago, including four on the offensive line, but just four starters on defense.
N.C. State returned six starters on offense and five on defense from last season.
The Seminoles are only averaging 109 rushing yards per game this season, but the defense is only giving up 73 yards on the ground, on average, and just 254 total yards per game.
The Wolfpack has scored exactly 17 points in each of its three games this season vs. D1 opponents, and has been outrushed by an average of 182-100 in those three games.
The total on this game opened up at right around 42, but has been bet down to 39. Also, there’s a pretty good chance of rain in Raleigh for Thursday night.
The Ultimatecapper Pick: We absolutely hate laying points on the road but Chuck Amato's Wolfpack really stink this year. There's really not much value in this game but if a gun was put to our head's, we'd recommend doing the dirty and laying the 10 on the road with FSU. Again, NO value in this game whatsoever, probably best to pass! |
