I hate the man
No, I'm not referring to the one that we try to beat to a bloody pulp everyday with BIG PIMPIN's rock-filled sock. I'm talking about that mother fucker that uses his clout to drive gas prices UP UP UP and force the average American citizen to purchase gasoline-only cars.
I'm a Bush fan and will help vote him back to office this year, so let's make clear that this isn't an issue specific to any one political candidate.
Something must be done to drive a stickshift into the ass of big bussiness. You know who I'm talking about. The big brother that does everyone possible to supress the creation, advancement, and wide spread distribution of goods that are cheaper to run and cheaper to use. It's that dark cloud I speak of. The one that covers the US of A like a plastic bag, suffocating free thinking and advancement.
Something must be done. Action must be taken.

Its easy but no one will do it. All everyone has to do is stop driving for 2 days. After 2 days they would be begging us to come back. It would take everyone but it could be done.
I also think its a joke that I was busy all day. I missed that jack-ass nmurch and boy would I have loved to rip him a new ass. I feel like I let Dead down. Either way the little tit boy from So Cal was lucky I was not in. He would have been bitch slapped like no other. Yomonte doing what needs to be done. I still wish I could have torn off a piece before he got the boot.

What can be done? It's not big business or politics that's driving up oil prices.... It's traders/speculators that don't even use the oil. As I understand it, the world oil supply is in pretty good shape, and demand has not taken off so much that it would drive prices up this high.... it's traders/speculators in the futures markets that have run up the price from the low $30's per barrel to $50 per barrel .... NOT business, NOT politicians, and NOT market conditions....

At the lowest level you're right, but the problem is we're so dependent on the product that we'll buy it no matter the cost--because we have no alternatives!! That's the key.

I agree.... research/developement of alternate fuel sources should be a higher priority than it is....

Gas/oil is just like any other commodity, it's price is a function of the demand for the product related to the current on-hand supply. It's not Exxon or Mobil or any other company that simply determines the price. Gas goes up in the summer months because people get more active and take vacations etc., which lowers the supply while increasing the demand, therefore making oil a more valuable commodity. As long as oil producers don't increase the output of oil that they get out of the ground, it will always go UP in price in the summer in the US. The current increase in price has to do with China!!! Now how's that for a wrinkle? As China slowly grows it's economy moving away from years of strict socialist style economic rule they are using multiple times the oil/gas that they have historically. I don't recall the actual numbers but any analyst of the issue who knows what he's talking about will tell you that Chinese increase in usage is the reason the price is high right now.
The thing about economic matters that is important to add to your thought process is that it is always true that what's bad for one side is good for another. Wheat prices down? Well, that's bad for a wheat farmer but it's good for the consumer. Prices up? Well, that's great for the farmer but now the public complains about the high price of bread. The same is true for anything like coffee, or oranges, or sugar or any commodity. And conservation is not the answer. Use less gas? Now people are out of work! Don't drink orange juice? Now the people who do the work that it takes to turn oranges into orange juice, at every level, have no work. And then what, we complain about high unemployment!!! Oranges are cheap as hell, but we have a different problem now.
Ain't life a bitch?
The answer is balance but it's not as if that's easy to achieve. First we need to drill the hell out of the Alaska for oil. ANWAR legislation has been obstructed by Congress but it's a bad move on their part. The environmental concern is so rediculous that it's laughable. Imagine Alaska the size of a football field. Drilling for oil in the area proposed, which wouldn't even be harmful to the local environment with modern techniques, would be like drilling for oil between the one yard line and the endzone the size of a dot that a magic marker would make if you just touched it on the ground in that space. Chew on that and tell me we shouldn't drill for oil.
