he Yankees travel to Orlando to face the Braves on Tuesday afternoon, when Randy Johnson will make his first start for New York.

Johnson was originally supposed to make his first start last week, but that was postponed due to tightness in his left calf. He is ready for action on Tuesday after throwing a bullpen session on Sunday.

Also making the trip will be Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Jorge Posada and Tino Martinez.

Derek Lowe, Kazuhisa Ishii and Alvarez are scheduled to pitch on Tuesday against Florida in Vero Beach. Ishii and Alvarez are contending for slots in the starting rotation. Alvarez is making his first appearance after shaking off the flu.


The Devil Rays travel to Lakeland on Tuesday to face the Tigers in a 1:05 p.m. ET game. Right-hander Hideo Nomo will start for the Devil Rays and will be followed by righty Seth McClung and lefty Casey Fossum. Left-hander Nate Robertson will start for the Tigers and will be followed by Gary Knotts, Steve Colyer, Franklin German and Craig Dingman.

The Mets and Orioles will square off Tuesday afternoon at Tradition Field with Kris Benson making his first start of the spring. St. Louis pays a visit on Wednesday, with Pedro Martinez getting his second start. He looked sharp last Friday making his debut against the Cards in Jupiter.

Left-hander Justin Thompson is considering his next move now that he and left-hander Ryan Wing have been reassigned to minor league camp. Thompson, who has tried to battle his way back to the Major Leagues after a series of arm ailments, could keep pitching in the Texas system or try to find a job with another organization. ... The Rangers will start right-hander Chris Young on Tuesday when they meet the Giants in Scottsdale. Texas will be on ESPN for the second day in a row. The Giants will go with left-hander Noah Lowry.
