In honor of my son tracking dog $hit through the house this morning after walking the dog, I'm doing it road doggie style tonight with most games in the Mid American Conference going against MAC trends where only 3 conference teams have winning road records. Here we go, BOL to everyone!
Bowling Green +6 @ Toledo
BGSU won at home earlier in the year 70-69 after UT blew a 19 pt. first half lead, but that's the way things have gone in the MAC all year long! The Falcons are 7-4 in the MAC, UT is 6-5. This is the first step in a rough run of conference games for BGSU as they have to go to Kent & Western Mich, and host Miami-OH and Ball State. The schedule favors UT for a late season run with games at home vs. No. Ill, Central Mich, Eastern Mich, and away games @ Akron, Ball St. and No. Ill. It's do or die time for the Orange in order to keep pace in the western division. UT's average home margin of victory is 7.5ppg vs. MAC teams and this big rivalry game should stay close!
Miami, OH +3 @ Ball State
The Redhawks are 9-2 in the MAC west division and Bal State is 7-4. The Cardinals have only lost once at home and that was recently by 9 pts. to Marshall, and two of those home wins were vs. No. Ill and Eastern Mich, and they managed to clip OhioU there by 1pt. Miami seems to have the momentum as they have won 6 in a row with victories over Buffalo (14-7), Toledo (10-10), Akron (13-6), Western Mich (15-8), OhioU (12-8) and Eastern Mich (10-11), while Ball State lost that game to Marshall (4-16) by a score of 90-81 a game in which they were 13pt. favorites.
Kent State +5.5 @ Akron
This rivalry game pits two schools who are less than 12 miles away from each other, and have the same school colors, against one another. It always stacks up to be a great game with 4 of the last 5 games at the JAR (James A. Rhodes) Arena decided by 5.7ppg. and both teams winning 2 of those games. Kent won the only lopsided JAR matchup in a 78-54 blowout in '02 when they made it to the Elite 8! Kent is only 1-4 on the road this year but 3 of their four losses were by an average of 5.3ppg. Both the Flashes and Zips are 7-4 in the MAC, while Kent is 15-7 overall and Akron 13-6.
Central Michigan +13.5 @ Northen Illinois
This dog is long overdue......The Chippewas have lost 6 in a row with their last victory coming over the Huskies @ home on Jan. 15th 72-63. Since then the Chipps have been lambasted 2x, once by 39 @ Akron, and once by 45 @ Western Mich. However, sandwiched in between those blowouts were losses @ Miami by just 10, Ball State by 13, Toledo by 8 and BGSU by 3. With a road record of 1-3 (only win @ Marshall by 3pts) this may be their last chance for a 'W' unless they pull a huge upset somewhere as they have Eastern Mich, Western Mich., Cleve. St., Kent, Toledo, and BGSU left to play. Northern has won three home games (Marshall, Eastern, OhioU) by an average of 7 points and are not a 1st half team. They were down by 17 early at Kent last week before losing by 10.
Eastern Michigan +4 @ Marshall
EMU has the better overall record 10-11, the Herd is 4-16, and also in MAC play 3-8 to 1-10 for MU. Both won games last Saturday breaking long losing streaks, 7 losses in a row for EMU and 6 losses in a row for the blundering Herd. EMU's consolation is that they lost those games to better teams than the Herd and by an average of 7ppg. EMU is 4-2-0 ATS in the last 6 AWAY games.....the poor Herd will be left with a schedule after this game that features road games @ Western Mich (15-8), Miami,OH (14-5) and Akron (13-6), and they host Buffalo (14-7) and OhioU (12-8). It's all up hill and I'm banking that they don't see any light at the end of this long dark tunnel!
