CBB : 2* ILLINOIS
Over the last 4+ seasons Assembly Hall in Champaign has been as close to a lock as any home court or stadium is sports. The Illini has posted a 60-2 SU record on their home floor and that includes an 84-65 wrecking of Ohio State. I bring up the Buckeyes only because the Hawkeyes traveled to Columbus 12 days ago and got crushed 81-69 catching 3 points.
Steve Alford’s crew is 13-3 SU including a 4-2 SU/ATS road record but they face a UI team that is off to their best start (18-0) in school history. Illinois has actually dropped 3 straight games to the line but with this game showing up on National TV look for Dee Brown and Luther Head (16.3 PPG) to showcase big time.
Iowa will also not want to be embarrassed on the Prime-Time stage but they face match-up problems all over the floor especially underneath. The Illini should be able to exploit the Iowa frontcourt and that will only serve to open up things on the perimeter.
Iowa has dropped 5 straight ATS but those were as a chalk or small pup. Their last 3 games have also been a telling sign of their struggles as they include the aforementioned Buckeyes and also lackluster performances against Minnesota and Michigan.
